If Wilco grew up listening to Bright Eyes in a Montreal basement, you’d get the emotive folk rock sound of Boat Maker, brainchild of multi-instrumentalist Gino Visconti.
Released February 15th, 2020, West Again is a Valentine’s Day hangover of a debut album that flirts with and subverts the standard breakup narrative.
After living in Seattle, Iowa City, and Toronto, armed with questions about the end of a serious relationship with a musical collaborator, Visconti’s return to Montreal reunited him with a network of hometown friends, musicians, and co-conspirators, such as Boat Maker’s Emily Rockarts, Daniel Rougeau, Sebastian Balk-Forcione, and Matt Rousseau.
Fittingly for an album about endings and beginnings, Boat Maker already has new music on deck and is ready to build off this sure-footed debut.
